Winterizing your Heavy Duty Diesel Truck

Top 7 items to winterize your diesel truck like a pro

  1. Treat the fuel with cold weather fuel treatment and replace all fuel filters.
  2. Test your batteries. Clean and inspect terminals and cables. Best Practice is to replace ALL your batteries if any are testing low.
  3. Check and service your coolant system. Test your coolant mixture and flush and replace if needed. Check your thermostats and replace if necessary.
  4. Test glow plugs and replace if necessary. (mostly on 1 ton and smaller trucks)
  5. Check and drain air tanks (your checking for water and drain if you find any).
  6. Check and replace rubber belts hoses and plastic tensioners that show signs of leaking or cracking or fraying. Replace hoses that have lost their flexibility.
  7. Inspect tires on your Heavy duty trucks and trailers. Steer Tires should be replaced if at 4/32nds drive/trailer tires replace at 2/32nds, if they have eggs are dry-rotted replace them.
