Top 7 items to winterize your diesel truck like a pro
- Treat the fuel with cold weather fuel treatment and replace all fuel filters.
- Test your batteries. Clean and inspect terminals and cables. Best Practice is to replace ALL your batteries if any are testing low.
- Check and service your coolant system. Test your coolant mixture and flush and replace if needed. Check your thermostats and replace if necessary.
- Test glow plugs and replace if necessary. (mostly on 1 ton and smaller trucks)
- Check and drain air tanks (your checking for water and drain if you find any).
- Check and replace rubber belts hoses and plastic tensioners that show signs of leaking or cracking or fraying. Replace hoses that have lost their flexibility.
- Inspect tires on your Heavy duty trucks and trailers. Steer Tires should be replaced if at 4/32nds drive/trailer tires replace at 2/32nds, if they have eggs are dry-rotted replace them.
